Here in Martinsville, we believe in handmade

Welcome to Martinsville, a tiny, long lost hamlet from days gone by, where you can find handmade treasures of all kinds, made with love by people who are also your neighbors, not machines in foreign countries.

Wander through our two-story historic building, built in 1910, and find a wide variety of locally-made jewelry, accessories, artwork, and gifts from some of the most talented artisans in Western New York.

Sniff your way through our cold process soaps, bath and body products, soy candles, and all the other luxurious yet affordable scented products that we’ve been creating since 2002.

Step up to the Laboratory and watch demonstrations of the soap making process during our monthly event, Fourth Friday.

These are just a few of the incredible things we have available. We hope to see you soon!

Coming September 23rd – Fourth Friday!

Here in Martinsville, we love to celebrate everything local, so in that spirit we’re rolling out our monthly event, Fourth Friday!

Come celebrate the fourth Friday of the month with some complimentary light refreshments and local wines, watch demonstrations in cold process soapmaking and chain maille techniques, have a custom button made by Brickhead Button Co., pick up a cupcake (or two, or six!) from guest artisan Sweet Cakes, and visit with our artisans. And start that wish list for the holidays! ^_^

More information will be available as we finalize our plans, so be sure to check our Facebook page for more information as it becomes available!

13 Days until our Grand Opening

We have been super, super busy since we closed on the property on August 8th. I was also super sick, coming down with a fever of 103 on the way home from the county building. O_o

But, my loyal crew of family members and I have been hard at work, scraping the years of paint and wallpaper off the rooms, and tearing down a few walls in the kitchen area to open the space up.

We also have a few artisans confirmed, and I need to start adding their pages and links to the site, but for now the best way to find out that information is by liking us on Facebook!

Store Update

Just a little over 3 weeks before our scheduled closing, and here in Martinsville we are in the very thick of planning. There isn’t much time between when we are given the keys from the very wonderful Rita of Asti Antiques and before we have our Grand Opening, so we’re doing everything we can now so we can hit the ground running.

In the boring, complicated back end, the Husband is working on putting together our computer network. Although we aren’t really a consignment shop, we’ve decided to use the really neat InBloom shop software instead of a traditional cash register. It has a lot of integrated features, including a search engine, mailing lists for both customers and artisans, and all the usual features of a point-of-sale system. This is going to be a great help to both our artisans and our customers (not to mention us and our accountant!).

But while he’s been working on that, I’ve been shopping. Would you like a peek? (more…)

Welcome to Martinsville!

Here in Martinsville, we of course follow the FDA guidelines for packaging our products. One of those is that our business name and address is on our products. For a home-based business, this has always been a drawback. Over the years, this has led to many, many phone calls from frantic customers who always say the same thing – “I’m driving up and down your street and can’t find your store.”

Well we are pleased and excited (and terrified!!)  to announce that we are opening a store right here in Martinsville! Located at 672 Niagara Falls Boulevard, a mere 4 miles from the I-290 and conveniently located halfway between Niagara Falls and Buffalo.

Not only will you be able to find your favorite soaps, lotions, lip balms, and candles (along with lots of great new products we’ve been working on!) but a wide array of handcrafted, locally-made products.

Our Grand Opening Weekend is scheduled for September 2-4, 2011, so stay tuned and watch us grow! ^_^
